Derek Owen took on the task of looking after the centre’s finances as Honorary Treasurer when it was founded in 1991 and served in that post until his retirement from the committee in 2016.
“I cannot think of many volunteers in the Society who have given so generously of their time, ideas and expertise as Derek. If you want to understand what is meant by ‘outstanding service’ then look no further than Derek,” said RTS Honorary Secretary David Lowen.
“It’s given for outstanding service to the Royal Television Society by its hard-working volunteers,” said RTS Honorary Secretary David Lowen, who presented the award to Marsh.
He quoted her colleagues’ words of praise for Marsh: “Energy, commitment, dynamism, generosity, mentor, remarkable, selfless, charisma and inspiration.”
At the IBC 2018 Review on 10th October, Honorary Secretary of the RTS, David Lowen, presented Terry Marsh with the Pilgram Award for her services to the Royal Television Society.
Lowen said, "As Honorary Secretary and on behalf of the RTS Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to announce this evening the presentation of the Society’s Pilgrim Award.
Al remained as Chair until 2000 when Charles Byrne assumed the role.
“We are all very sad at the passing of our dear friend and colleague Al Lennon and owe him a great deal for his vision in founding the RoI Centre. I also had the honour of working with him at RTÉ when he was part of the outside broadcast department,” said Byrne, who remains the Chair of the Centre.
In 2006, Al was presented with the RTS’s Pilgrim Award, which recognises outstanding service to the society.
