BT has revealed plans to broadcast the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League finals for free on YouTube, the BT website, BT Sport channels and the BT app for 2017.

The UEFA Champions League final will be broadcast for the first time in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos on BT Sport and 4K UHD on YouTube, with multiple 360 degree streams on Youtube and the new BT Sport VR App, which allows viewers to choose their own camera viewpoint as well as commentary and graphics.

BT Sport has brought the fun back into football – as any viewer could confirm after seeing Gary Lineker and his team of pundits cavorting around the studio when Sergi Roberto’s astonishing last-gasp goal for Barcelona cemented victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Champions League last month.

Sally Bundock, presenter of World Business Report on the BBC News Channel, presented the evening in which John Petter reflected on his career at BT and the latest extension of the company's exclusive deal with the Champions League and Europa League.

The BT Consumer boss also discussed the company’s first steps into drama, but refused to be drawn on any plans for expansion.

One day before the RTS event, BT extended its TV rights for the Champions League and Europa League until 2021 – but had to shoulder a 32% price hike.

In a wide-ranging conversation with Sally Bundock, presenter of World Business Report on the BBC News Channel, Petter denied that BT had spent too much acquiring rights that no other company – Sky included – was overly keen to win.
