BBC has announced that the third series of drama The Split will be its last.
From writer Abi Morgan, The Split is set in the world of London’s high end divorce circuit, examining the realities of marriage and the long reaching consequences of divorce.
The Split focuses on the complicated lives of the Defoe sisters, dependable Hannah (Nicola Walker), hedonistic Nina (Annabel Scholey) and free-spirited Rose (Fiona Button), and their tough mother Ruth (Deborah Findlay).
Divorce lawyer Hannah is now negotiating her own divorce following the breakdown of her marriage to fellow lawyer Nathan (Stephen Mangan), due to the revelation of her betrayal.
Determined to amicably divide up their 20 years together, a devastating revelation leads to battle lines being drawn and the hope of a friendly divorce left in ruins.
Abi Morgan commented: “It’s great to be back writing for the Defoe Family, and to dive once more into the complications of their lives and those of their clients.
“In the final series of this bittersweet trilogy, Hannah faces the heartbreak of her own divorce, and the fight to save her family and her marriage.
“Siblings clash, past mistakes are exposed and hearts are broken as Noble Hale Defoe notches up more billable hours in the divorce capital of the world.”
Nicola Walker expressed her excitement at returning for series three, she added: “I don’t know if Hannah will cling to the wreckage or walk away, but I do know it’s going to be a fantastic ride.”
Series three of The Split is due to begin filming in 2021. Series one and two are available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
