This week in TV sees a Spielberg adaptation, a new comedy from Sara Pascoe and the first live show of Strictly.

The Million Pound Cube

Monday 19th October

ITV, 9pm

Philip Schofield returns to host the high-stakes revamp of The Cube. With £1,000,000 to play for, the competing pairs must get through seven rounds of increasingly difficult challenges.

Brothers Adam and Jon and twin sisters Priya and Shreya must keep their calm under the mounting pressure as the eye-watering cash prize looms within touching distance.

 

Out of Her Mind

Tuesday 20th October

BBC Two, 10pm

Comedian Sara Pascoe joins the ranks of fellow stand-ups Aisling Bea and Mae Martin as the writer and creator of her own sitcom, with Pascoe’s offering aiming to ‘destroy your faith in love’.

Out of Her Mind follows the protagonist Sara as she struggles to reconcile her own heartbreak with the flourishing love lives of those closest to her. Rather than sharing in their joy, she becomes increasingly alienated by her sister’s engagement and her best friend’s pregnancy.

Pascoe is joined by Juliet Stevenson (Riviera) starring as her mother, Fiona Button (The Split) playing her sister Lucy and Cariad Lloyd (Murder in Successville) as her best friend Scoopy.

 

Don’t Hate the Playaz series three

Tuesday 20th October

Hosted by one half of Rizzle Kicks, Jordan Stephens, Don’t Hate the Playaz sees two celebrity teams face off in a series of hip hop duels.

In this first episode, Maya Jama, Katherine Ryan and MNEK face Lady Leshurr, Judi Love and Ms Banks in rap battles, dance-offs & freestyles.

 

Minority Report

Wednesday 21st October

Fox, 9pm

The first of Steven Spielberg’s films to be adapted for TV, Minority Report is set 10 years after his 2002 sci-fi feature of the same name.

In 2065, ‘Precognitive’ Dash (Stark Sands) is a psychic who can predict crimes and stop them from happening. The law’s Precrime Unit was dismantled in 2054, but there are still plenty looking to use - or abuse - Dash’s powers.

Now Dash assists Detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good) of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, but while preventing crimes he must also prevent the secret of his gift being revealed, or else be tracked down and exploited by those looking to harness Precog power once more.

 

Strictly Come Dancing

Saturday 24th October

Bringing some much-needed glitz and glamour to our Saturday nights, the twelve celebrities are now paired with their professional dancers and will be taking to the dance floor in the first live show of the series.

Hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, the celebrities’ debut dances will be judged by Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel Horwood, with Bruno Toniolo joining on the Sunday results show.

Nicola Adams will be making history as the first same-sex dancing pair alongside Katya Jones, with the duo dance-battling against the likes of Clara Amfo, Caroline Quentin, Bill Bailey and Jamie Laing for the coveted Strictly glitterball trophy.

Twenties

Sunday 25th October

BBC Three

A semi-autobiographical series from creator Lena Waithe (Master of None), Twenties follows aspiring young black lesbian writer Hattie (Jonica T. Gibbs) and her friends Marie (Christina Elmore) and Nia (Gabrielle Graham), all pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles.

Down and out, Hattie finally gets her foot in the door when a successful producer offers her work on a show as a PA. With an endless list of errands to run, Hattie struggles to find her voice as a writer and establish herself in Hollywood. Plus, there is the added stress of looking for love.

Film executive Marie and actor Nia are also striving for success in showbiz, so together the three friends unite to take on their twenties.
