Fans of The Traitors were buzzing on Saturday night after the BBC teased the new series.
The clip aired just before Strictly Come Dancing, and saw its RTS Award-winning host Claudia Winkleman donning the iconic cloak before shushing the camera. Words revealed that the series was "coming soon" to BBC One.
Several fans clocked another hint during the live Strictly broadcast. A cloaked figure was seen looming behind Winkleman as she spoke to the dancing couples awaiting their scores.
After the high stakes game of 'murder' and deception captivated an average audience of 5.4 million, the BBC commissioned a second series of The Traitors in February 2023.
The Mafia-esque format should largely remain the same, with 22 strangers entering the Scottish castle and being divided into Faithfuls and Traitors. The former hope to share the cash prize (which, depending on their performance in the challenges, is in the region of £120,000), while the latter are tasked with systematically 'murdering' the Faithfuls to claim the prize all for themselves.
The psychological centrepiece of the series is the daily Round Table discussion, whereby the players vote on who they should banish—much to the anguish of them all.
An exact release date is yet to be confirmed but, based on the previous series, it should air later in 2023.
At the RTS Programme Awards 2023, The Traitors won the Entertainment award, and Winkleman the Entertainment Performance award.
At our Anatomy of a Hit: The Traitors event, a panel of producers and fan favourites Wilf Webster and Amanda Lovett discussed the making of the series.
