Legends Of The Fall star and Hollywood heavyweight Julia Ormond will take the lead in new BBC One drama Gold Digger
Written and created by Marnie Dickens (Thirteen) Gold Digger tells the story of a woman who falls in love with a much younger man and the toll it takes on her already fractured family relationships.
Best known for her film roles including Sabrina and First Knight, Ormond will play the lead role of Julia Day in the six-part drama by Mainstreet Pictures.
Julia has spent her whole life putting the needs of others before herself. Gold Digger is the tale of how this wealthy 60-year-old falls for Benjamin, a man 25 years her junior, much to the chagrin of her family. When secrets from the past are exposed, will their unconventional relationship falter or has Julia finally found what she has been searching for. Is it all about love or all about money?
RTS award nominee Marnie Dickens commented: "I'm thrilled to have the hugely talented Julia Ormond bringing our heroine to life. I couldn't be happier to be working with the BBC and Mainstreet on a drama that puts an older woman unequivocally at the heart of the action.”
Vanessa Caswill (Little Women, Thirteen) will direct the first three episodes and Tim Bradley (Unforgotten, Death in Paradise) will produce.
Gold Digger was commissioned by Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, and Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content and is set to air next year.
