Sky VR has announced its new 360° documentary Finding Haka, which will launch of their VR app.
In partnership with Sky Sports, Sky VR is bringing rugby union closer than ever before in this powerful documentary which will bring the legacy of the Haka to light.
The film, says Sky VR’s executive producer Neil Graham “transports the viewer into the heart of the world’s most iconic sporting and cultural ritual.”
The virtual reality film follows the journey of a young Maori man as he explores the ancient cultural traditions which drive rugby in New Zealand.
“The power, the rawness and the eruption of emotion of the Haka is overwhelming,” says director James Hedley, “I hope the film will resonate not only with sports fans but also detached youths and history fanatics around the world.”
Finding Haka will be available on the Sky VR app from 5pm on Friday 23 June, ahead of the British and Irish Lions taking on New Zealand in the first Test of the series at 7.30am on Sky Sports 1 the following day.
This is not Sky's first foray into using VR in its coverage. Previous Sky VR productions have included exclusive Premier League football experiences, coverage of the Anthony Joshua/Wladamir Klitschko fight and Sky Sports: Closer with David Beckham.
Sky will be showing the British and Irish Test over the next few weeks.
The Test is part of the broadcaster’s Summer of Sport which includes England Test cricket matches against South Africa and the West Indies, and golfing events such as The Open and the US Open.
