Poldark screenwriter Debbie Horsfield is penning a contemporary drama series for BBC One
Age Before Beauty is set in a family-run Manchester beauty salon and explores the modern fascination with staying young.
The series follows Bel, wife of Wesley for 25 years, who has spent the last two decades raising their twins. Now that the twins have left to go to university, Bel is left trying to fill that void.
Her brother-in-law and best friend, Teddy, asks her to step in and rescue their family's struggling beauty salon.
Bel has to deal with family feuds and rivalries while shoring up the struggling business.
To complicate matters, beautiful, young personal trainer Lorelei has rather caught the eye of Bel’s husband.
The show reunites Horsfield with the team behind 2002 hit Cutting It, including Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes.
Horsfield said “This will be our first collaboration since Cutting It, and we’re looking forward to turning the spotlight on the subject of aging: growing older gracefully – or disgracefully!”
BBC Content Director Charlotte Moore added that “Age Before Beauty has it all: a dysfunctional family, bitter rivalries and botox. [It] is set to be the Cutting It for a new generation.”
