Sky and HBO have confirmed series two of zombie apocalypse drama The Last of Us will air early this year.
The first series of the video game adaptation was broadcast in 2023, and followed Joel (Pedro Pascal, The Mandalorian) as he took teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey, Game of Thrones) across a post-apocalyptic United States. Where most of humanity has fallen prey to a fungal infection, Ellie is immune to the ‘cordyceps’ disease. As such, the secret to creating a vaccine that could get the planet back to some semblance of normalcy may lie with her.
In series two, Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick) will be joining the cast as Abby, as well as Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight) as Dina. In The Last of Us Part II, Dina is Ellie’s partner, and helps her in a quest to avenge a murder. Abby, on the other hand, starts the second video game determined to get justice for her father, killed in both the first video game and TV series by Joel.
Jeffrey Wright (The French Dispatch) will also feature in series two as Isaac Dixon, a militia leader who may be no better than the people he helped overthrow. Catherine O’Hara (The Nightmare Before Christmas) will guest star.
In a trailer for series two, Ellie is seen holding a gun. In voiceover, someone warns:
“There are just some things everyone agrees is just wrong.”
Series two of The Last of Us will air in the UK in April 2025 on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
