The BBC is sending Zara McDermott to Ibiza, the ever-popular party island, to find out how it operates during the height of the summer season.
Over four parts, Zara McDermott: Inside Ibiza (working title) will grant viewers unprecedented inside access to the island and its characters.
Having holidayed in Ibiza many times since she first visited in 2019, the former Love Island contestant now wants to discover what draws her and so many others in, and how the place is changing as it looks to attract more upmarket clientele.
McDermott says: “As the 'Instagram effect' makes Ibiza the place to be seen for more and more young Brits, I’m keen to explore how the island operates and deals with the challenges this poses.”
McDermott has a long history with the BBC, having made similarly thought provoking documentaries for the broadcaster on a wide range of topics. This includes revenge porn (Revenge Porn), sexism and ‘rape culture’ in UK schools (Uncovering Rape Culture) and the rise of young people experiencing eating disorders (Disordered Eating), all of which can be streamed now on BBC iPlayer.
McDermott will also be seen on BBC Three and iPlayer later in the summer with another documentary series.
Commenting on McDermott's popularity, Clare Sillery, Head of Commissioning, Documentaries for the BBC, said “[it is] down to her ability to speak at eye level to the BBC Three audience about what matters most to them, so we’re thrilled she’ll be bringing that insight to Ibiza for us.”
Zara McDermott: Inside Ibiza will be broadcast on BBC Three and iPlayer in 2024.
