After only four months since first launching as the television branch of the Vice brand, Viceland has now struck deals to air in 44 countries

The rapid growth of the new TV channel makes Viceland the "fastest growing television network in history."

Speaking at a press conference at the Cannes Lions advertising festival, CEO Shane Smith said, "When I first announced Viceland was going to launch in 12 countries in 12 months everyone rolled their eyes.

"It turns out they were right, we were wrong. We didn't do 12 countries in 12 months; we did 44 countries in four months."

Territories such as Iran, Thailand, Afghanistan, and Australia are among those included in deals with Vice to provide audiences with programming in digital, mobile and linear markets.

Earlier this year, Vice announced a partnership with Sky to air in the UK and Ireland, in the media company's first European deal, before buying out indie Pulse Films as part of its plans to produce original content in the UK.
