Sky One has commissioned comedies, Jack and The Beanstalk: After Ever After and Hansel and Gretel: After Ever After starring David Walliams, Sheridan Smith and Blake Harrison.
Sky One original Jack and The Beanstalk: After Ever After was created and written by The Dawson Brother and David Walliams.
Walliams will take on the role of the feared giant, with Sheridan Smith playing The Woman with No Name, who is known as the best giant-slayer in the village, and Blake Harrison stars as Dodgy Dave, a sneaky market stall trader who originally sold Jack the magic beans.
The one-off Christmas special will tell the story of what happens after the ‘happily ever after’, with the original story ending with Jack seeming to have defeated the giant.
In this tale, the giant was concussed, not killed, and is now stuck on earth unable to get back to his home and is surrounded by angry villagers.
Jack and the Giant must team up and concoct a clever plan to overcome their fears and get the Giant back home and they just might build up an unlikely friendship along the way.
The rest of the cast includes Ashley McGuire as Mayoress, Jocelyn Jee Esien as Pat and Daniel Rigby as the Baker.
“I often wondered what happened to Jack after ever after, so I decided to write a sequel because I can’t stop writing books!” said David Walliams.
He added: “This is a star-studded festive treat - a comedy sequel to one of the best loved English fairy tales. I am delighted to be playing the Giant, alongside some of the biggest names in British TV.”
Sheridan Smith said: “This is a brilliantly funny piece and I’m so excited to be working with David again. My part ‘The Woman with No Name’, is a really fun part and like every baddie, she gets her comeuppance in the end! After the year we’ve had it’s the perfect story for Christmas that the whole family can enjoy together.”
Production on Jack and The Beanstalk: After Ever After, is set to start next month and will air on Sky One and NOW TV this Christmas.
Further announcements about Hansel & Gretel: After Ever After will be released at a later date.
