Channel 4 is tackling the big issues in its new slate of factual programming.

Head of Specialist Factual, John Hay said, “[Channel 4 is] naturally focused on what’s happening now and what’s happening next. I’m excited by ideas that start by asking ‘What’s going on in the world?’”

A Year of British Murder (w/t) tracks all the killings that happen across the country: the whys, whos and wheres of the deaths that happen every day around us. From Bafta-winner Ben Anthony (7/7: one day in London, Life and Death Row), the programme will explore the way that we cover these acts of violence, the stories that we tell about them and what it says about the state of Britain today.

The Channel (w/t) explores our relationship with the stretch of water that separates us from our neighbours on the continent. The English Channel is the world's busiest shipping lane, and this programme looks at the individuals who keep life moving on – and under – the Channel.

Trump: An American Story (w/t) is a four-part series which charts the life of the current President of the United States from businessman and developer to media star and politician, via bankruptcy and controversy. It is a story of capitalism, celebrity, politics and reality TV – and it is the story of modern America.
