Ghosts has announced the release date for its fifth and final series – and it’s just in time for spooky season.

In the last series, Alison and Mike, played by Charlotte Richie (Fresh Meat) and Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Taskmaster), dealt with unsuitable birthday parties, regretted buying ‘zorbing balls’ to spice up their B&B, and saw their gatehouse burn to the ground – all while having to manage their own personal gaggle of ghosts.

They had to cope with veganism-by-proxy through renaissance poet Thomas (Mathew Baynton) and scout-leader Pat (Jim Howick), and the departure of Katy Wix’s (Stath Lets Flats) Stuart-era ‘witch’ Mary, as she ascended into the afterlife (or, as the ghosts say, got "sucked off").

The newly released trailer reveals that Alison and Mike will be confronted by more money troubles in the upcoming series, with their insurance claim on the gatehouse being investigated. It also teases that viewers might finally find out more of the Captain’s (Ben Willbond) backstory, as he is shown walking towards the gates of Button House; an area the house’s dead residents have always been unable to enter.

The fifth and final series of Ghosts will start on BBC One on Friday 6 October 2023, with the boxset dropping on iPlayer the same day.
