The RTS Futures Virtual Careers Fair is back for 2022, and bigger and better than ever!


EVENT PROGRAMME

The two day event on 1 & 2 February will invite attendees from across the UK to network, find job opportunities, join CV workshop and sessions, and hear from some of the best in the industry about how to land that first job in TV.

Air TV

Central Film School

Founded in 2008, Central Film School offers students a practical education in fictional narrative and documentary filmmaking. Through their BA (Hons), MA and Short Courses, they give students a grounding in all aspects of filmmaking and aim to give independent voices the skills and knowledge needed to tell their stories through film.

Edinburgh TV Festival

Think TV's not for you? Think again! The Network is a free entry-level scheme for anyone aged 18+ who wants to start a career in television.

The Network takes place every August alongside the Edinburgh TV Festival. The 60 delegates selected for their 2022 programme will get access to sessions, masterclasses and workshops led by industry professionals, as well as a free Festival pass, accommodation in Edinburgh, a year of mentoring and unlimited support to help them find paid TV jobs. Previous speakers include Charlie Brooker, Louis Theroux and Gbemisola Ikumelo.

ENVY

ENVY is a multi-award winning Post Production facility providing HD, UHD, 4K, and Dolby Vision HDR picture alongside 5.1, 7.1 and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos audio studios across 6 sites in Central London. Grierson DocLab

Grierson DocLab is a training scheme that helps UK-based new entrants aged 18-25 thrive in the world of factual TV and documentary filmmaking.

The scheme takes place over approximately one year, and due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, will be run as a combination of online and in person. It aims to equip up to 12 successful trainees with the skills and networks to pursue a career in the UK factual industry.

Successful applicants to the scheme will receive: an intensive hybrid training programme covering all aspects of factual TV; a bursary-supported work placement at a UK production company; full registration to Sheffield Doc/Fest; an industry mentor; a Grierson DocLab Alumni buddy match; a ticket to the Grierson Awards ceremony; membership of the Grierson DocLab Alumni network; ongoing bespoke support to help career progression within the sector and more.

RTS Bursaries

The RTS’s bursary programmes are ground-breaking. We support students from lower income backgrounds studying for degrees or Higher National Diplomas. There are two schemes – the TV Production and Journalism Bursary (TVPJ) and the Technology Bursary.

The TVPJ bursary is awarded to students studying TV Production, film and media related courses.

The Technology bursary is awarded to students studying Maths, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering and other related technological courses.

Whilst many of the benefits and opportunities received by students awarded either bursary is the same, (free RTS membership; access to the latest events and lectures; £1000 per academic year of study which is paid at the end of February each year) we do try to tailor the scheme to suit the needs of the scholars. For example TVPJ Scholars are paired up with mentors, and Technology Scholars attend a 10 day Summer Tour.

S4C

S4C is a Welsh language television channel. They transmit live between six in the morning to late at night. It is also possible to watch their programmes and videos on other digital platforms at times that suit you.

There is a very wide range of programmes on S4C including news, drama, documentaries, music, entertainment and children programmes. The content on the web includes a short form service, aimed mainly at a 16-34-year-old audience and is called Hansh.

Independent production companies produce most of the programmes. The BBC also produce around 520 hours a year for the channel.

Many of the programmes have English subtitles and some also have an English language soundtrack. S4C can be enjoyed across the United Kingdom, and some programmes are also available throughout the world.

Studio Lambert

University of Surrey

The University of Surrey's course in Film Production and Broadcast Engineering gives students the skills and knowledge to get a job in Film, TV, broadcast or streaming. Their graduates are now employed with Broadcasters such as Disney, Sky and GB News, Postproduction houses like The Look, FrameStore, streaming and broadcast equipment companies like Techex and Hawkeye, outside broadcasters such as NEP and CTV and some graduates go onto PhDs and Masters. Most of their students spent a placement year in industry to prepare them for these graduate positions. 

They have recently been accredited by the IET who commended the quality of our industry facilities and studios, the design of the course creating a balance of engineering and creative content, the high quality creative production and the employability of the students. YAFTA

YAFTA is a professional acting academy and award-winning talent agency based in Leeds, specialising in screen acting education and training, film and tv production, and screenwriting.

The Spotlight Accredited, Acting for Screen Diploma programme is an 18-month, blended learning course designed for those with little or no experience of screen acting who wish to undertake intensive training to equip them with the necessary tools and experience to progress from beginner to professional screen actor within 18 months.
