Falmouth University enjoyed a productive nights at the RTS Devon and Cornwall Student Television Awards, with its students winning four of the five main categories.

Love Island star and social media influencer Laura Crane hosted the ceremony, which was held at the Jill Craigie Cinema, University of Plymouth, in late March. Crane, who is also a champion surfer, talked to the students about her life in the media. “People sometimes forget about us down here, but don’t! There are honestly so many incredible films. It’s mad to think that these people are just starting out,” she said.

“We were thrilled Laura joined us to host our awards ceremony and share her experiences with the students. Laura embodies the multifaceted media world we now live in,” said awards producer Neil Edwards.

Falmouth University students scooped the Animation, Comedy and Entertainment, Drama and Factual awards, as well as the Camera, Editing, Production Design and Sound prizes in the Craft Skills categories.

University of Plymouth students Simon Cohen and James Cox won the Short Form and Graphic Design awards, respectively, while Plymouth Marjon University’s Jessica Jones took home the Writing prize.

Edwards added that the judging panel was “universally impressed by the overall quality of entries this year – with the scripted films and animations characteristically strong”.
