The trailer for series two of the hit LGBTQ+ drama Heartstopper has revealed what’s next for central couple Charlie and Nick, ahead of its release date in August.
Heartstopper gained instant cult status last year as its dutiful retelling of Alice Oseman’s series of graphic novels encapsulated the gay, straight, lesbian and transgender high school experiences.
In the first series, 15-year-old Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) found himself falling for the ‘straight’ boy who sat next to him, Nick Nelson (Kit Connor). After a series of will-they-won’t-they moments and self-discovery for Nick, series one culminated with Nick coming out to his mother and the two becoming an official couple.
Series two will see Charlie and Nick figuring out what it means to be in a public relationship, with Nick struggling to find the time and place to tell his friends. The newly released trailer shows the couple kissing and embracing in public, with Charlie shouting ‘I have a boyfriend!’ while Nick grapples the complexities of coming out the closet.
Transgender student Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney) and her best friend Tao (William Gao) will both begin to wonder whether their friendship could be something more, as it comes to a head on a school trip to Paris.
Additionally, the trailer hints at trouble for lesbian couple Darcy (Corinna Brown) and Tara (Kizzy Edgell), as Darcy is shown declaring her love to Tara, only to receive the word ‘yeah’ in response.
Heartstopper series two will be released on Netflix in the UK on 3 August 2023. Watch the trailer below.
