The BBC has revealed first-look images for new drama Dope Girls.
The show centres around the clubs and nightlife of 1918 Soho. Men are returning from World War I, and finding women back home far more independent than when they left them.
Each of the six episodes follows all types of people caught in the tangle of clubland. There’s single mum Kate Galloway, played by Julianne Nicholson (Mare of Easttown), who sets up a nightclub to provide for her daughter, Evie (Eilidh Fisher). Billie Cassidy (Umi Myers) is a dancer, whose life is turned upside down by Kate.
Meanwhile, Violet Davies, played by Eliza Scanlen (Little Women), is one of the first female police officers in Britain. She’s dispatched to Soho’s nightclub circuit to investigate undercover.
Ian Bonar (I May Destroy You), Shannon Murphy (Babyteeth), Michael Duke (Get Up Stand Up) and Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper) are also amongst the cast.
The show was created by playwright Polly Stenham and writer Alex Warren, who also serve as Dope Girls’ lead writers. Shannon Murphy is the lead director and executive producer.
