The anthology drama featuring Meryl Streep and Kit Harington comes to the streaming service next month.
Extrapolations presents an imminent apocalyptic future where the catastrophic effects of climate change are choking modern society. The world is at breaking point, and humans are taking action.
Storylines involving family, faith, love and work all come to the surface as characters suffer and prosper via planet earth falling apart around them.
The new trailer alludes to a technological, futuristic reality, mere decades from now. Society has conquered cancer and allowed humans to “step foot on Mars”. Are the wealthiest in society being shuttled off to a climate change-free planet?
The stars are aligning in this high concept, high budget drama. Meryl Streep (Big Little Lies), Sienna Miller (Anatomy of a Scandal), Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Daveed Diggs (black-ish), Toby Maguire (The Spoils of Babylon), Edward Norton (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) and Diane Lane (House of Cards) all feature.
Joining them are Tahar Rahim (The Serpent), Forest Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem), Eiza González (Baby Driver), Marion Cotillard (Inception), Murray Bartlett (White Lotus), MaameYaa Boafo (Thru 25), Hari Nef (Transparent), Judd Hirsch (Taxi), Neska Rose (Drama Club) and David Schwimmer (Friends).
Gaz Choudhry also makes his acting debut. The British wheelchair basketball player won bronze for Great Britain at the 2016 and 2020 Paralympics.
“I think it helps to look at climate change like a bear,” Edward Norton’s character, Jonathan Chopin, explains to officials in the trailer. “The whole planet has been wrestling with the bear for decades now. So far, the bear has been kicking our ass.”
Told across eight episodes, storylines weave together as we meet and understand a hoard of different characters.
The series is written, directed and executive produced by Scott Z. Burns (Contagion) and produced by Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res. Previous Apple TV+ and Media Res collaborations have delivered The Morning Show and Pachinko.
Extrapolations will premiere on Apple TV+ with three episodes on 17 March, followed by new episodes weekly.
