Netflix has announced when we can expect its new adaptation of David Nicholls' bestselling romance novel One Day—and it's just in time for Valentine's Day 2024.
In the debut images accompanying the announcement, Ambika Mod (This Is Going to Hurt) and Leo Woodall (The White Lotus series two) are seen starring as the central couple, Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew, across the places and decades of their love story.
They meet on 15th July 1988, the night of their graduation from university. They separate the next morning, but the chapters check in on them both on that one ordinary day for every year that follows.
The novel was first published in 2009 and was soon adapted by Nicholls for a feature film in 2011, starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess as Emma and Dexter.
For this adaptation, however, lead writer Nicole Taylor and her team of Anna Jordan, Vinay Patel and Bijan Sheibani are harnessing the episodic structure of the novel for a 14-part series. Each part "finds Dex and Em one year older, on this one particular date, as they grow and change, move together and apart, experience joy and heartbreak."
Essie Davis, Tim McInnerny, Amber Grappy, Jonny Weldon, Eleanor Tomlinson, Joely Richardson and Toby Stephens also feature in the drama.
All 14 episodes of One Day will drop globally on Netflix on 8 February 2024.
