A researcher is the next step up from the role of runner in the editorial production line and the job role varies depending on the project. The main role of a researcher is what it says on the tin: research.
Duties include
- Sourcing and researching information needed for the programme, this could be anything from looking up locations to facts about the subject matter
- Fact checking and conducting background checks on contributors
- Data wrangling
- Conducting interviews
- Writing and editing
- Developing and generating ideas for the project
- Archive research
- Booking resources, freelance staff and transport
- General administrative jobs
- Finding and interviewing contributors for the programme
Skills needed
- The ability to generate and develop new ideas
- Strong editorial and research skills
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Close attention to detail
- The ability to precisely fact-check
- Able to work well as a team
- Able to work well in pressured environments
