Break Into Scriptwriting 
Do you want to write for TV?

If you dream of penning episodes of Coronation Street or River City; or have your very own script masterpiece you think commissioners would fight over, then this is the event for you.  This RTS Scotland writer’s event is aimed at budding TV writers keen to break into the world of TV drama. 

You’re invited to meet a brilliant panel of writers, who have written for some of the top dramas of recent years, and will share their experience and words of wisdom at this special event.

Following the discussion, attendees will be invited to network with the panel over drinks.

THE CHAIR

Paul English - Paul is a journalist and broadcaster who has covered all areas of the Scottish cultural scene for 25 years working across newspapers, radio and television. He's the author of Deacon Blue's official biography and is a regular presenter and contributor on BBC Radio Scotland.

 

THE PANEL

  • Gillian McCormack – Gillian is a Scottish writer from Glasgow. Signed to Independent Talent Group, she has just received her first greenlight on Counsels for the BBC - a new Glasgow set legal drama with Balloon Entertainment which she has co-written with Skins creator Bryan Elsley. In addition she has multiple projects in development with Balloon, Imaginarium, FilmNation, and Ferryman. She received a Post Grad Diploma in Script Development at the NFTS and has participated in schemes including BBC Drama Room and the Edinburgh Film Festival Talent Lab. Prior to writing, Gillian spent over 15 years working in sponsorship and PR in the arts and music industry. 
     
  • Jillian Mannion - Jillian is an award-winning screenwriter from Dundee. She has been a writer on River City for the past 7 years and has written for Casualty and Death in Paradise as well as Granite Harbour for BBC. She was the lead writer for Netflix's critically-acclaimed Blood, Sex & Royalty and has written two feature films. Jillian is currently on the writing team for series 3 of Granite Harbour. 
     
  • Ciara Conway - a BAFTA Scotland-nominated screenwriter whose credits include, Screw II (STV/C4), For Her Sins (C5), Granite Harbour S2 (LA Productions/BBC), and BBC long runners Holby City, Casualty, The Dumping Ground and River City.
     
  • Mark Stevenson - follownig graduation from graduated from the BBC Writers' Academy in 2013, Mark has been a core writer on Casualty, Eastenders and River City. His other TV credits include The Good Ship Murder, Holby City, Doctors, Eve and The Dumping Ground.
