Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth to star as unlikely detective duo in new crime comedy Death Valley

Set in Wales, the series will follow John Chapel (Spall), a retired actor who starred in the fictional detective TV show Caesar.

After the death of his neighbour, John teams up with an actual detective sergeant in Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth). The two form a funny couple, but, each week, they must negotiate their opposing instincts to solve a murder.

Despite their differences, and all their arguments about the case and their personal lives, they soon come to realise that they are the closest thing one another has to a best friend.

Wolf Hall follows Hilary Mantel’s series of historical novels of the same name, focusing on the rise of Thomas Cromwell through the court of Henry VIII (Damian Lewis, Homeland). The close of series one saw Cromwell rise to a place of political power, followed by the execution of Anne Boleyn (Claire Foy, The Crown), which means series two, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light, will see Kate Phillips’ (Peaky Blinders) Jane Seymour take her place as the third queen
