The future of the RTS, especially in the regions, is about ensuring that it has a relevance and a clear purpose. And this must be a real purpose for all – from new recruits to industry heavyweights. We need events that inspire, challenge and make us question the direction of travel for our sector, while ensuring there are opportunities to make new connections and unexpected partnerships.

Since the pandemic, it is true that we have all been grappling with the best forum to have conversation and debate, and thinking about the spaces and places in which we come together.

The winner in the Animation category is the stop animation film ‘Allotment’, created by Karla Engstrom and Samuel Carson, from Manchester Metropolitan University. In the Comedy and Entertainment Category, the winning programme is ‘Login’ created by Dan Finch from the University of Salford. The winning entry in the Drama Category this year is awarded to ‘Dog Factory’, by Brody Salmon and Izzy Brenan, from The Manchester Film School. In the Factual Category, the award goes to ‘Taking Control: Sex Work as a Modern Industry’, from Sophie Coupe at The University of Salford.

Peter Kay’s Car Share: The Finale won the Best Comedy Programme award, while Kay’s co-star, Sian Gibson, was named Best Comedy Performer for her appearance in the Goodnight Vienna Productions’ show.
