Sean Cunningham, Paul Kavanagh, Padraic Byrne, Nicole Storck and team from the Irish School of Animation, Ballyfermot College of Further Education took the Animation award with an irreverent film about religion, Define Intervention. “The original scripting and placing of witty set pieces immediately conveyed a well-crafted animation with great attention to detail and unique comedy,” said the jury.

With the increased use of audiovisual technology in aviation, and particularly in training, the Centre was keen to see the flight simulators at the military aerodrome in action.

The Irish Air Corps currently operates two simulators, a PC-9M and a multi-crew trainer. Both were demonstrated at the aerodrome in Baldonnel, County Dublin.

When Dee Forbes arrives in Dublin to take up the position of Director-­General of Irish national broadcaster RTÉ, she will be the first woman to hold the post and the first to come from outside the organisation in almost 50 years.

Moreover, Forbes, currently on gardening leave as President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks, Northern Europe, will be returning to Ireland on something like half her present salary.
