Technology Centre Colloquium - Cybersecurity for Broadcasting

IP provides untold opportunities for broadcasters with its delivery of flexibility, scalability, and resilience, but it also has weaknesses, especially if security is not built into the infrastructure from the start of the design. Broadcast facilities are a prime target for a whole plethora of criminals from hostile state actors to terrorists, and even somebody looking to cause disruption just because they can. Understanding the threat is a full-time job, and that’s before we even start building and maintaining secure systems.

Meet Greg Jenner: The human embodiment of Horrible Histories’ Rattus Rattus

He didn’t set out to teach millions of children that Incans used urine as shampoo, or that Pythagoras died whilst evading a field of beans. Greg Jenner’s original plan was to go down the academic pipeline of PHD to Professor of History.

But a series of knock-on effects meant that he would have to find another route. After a trying time with his mental health, Jenner missed out on a double first as an undergrad, which meant that he had to take out a loan for his masters and left him unable to finance his PHD.

"There is a mental health crisis that follows any war": James W Newton on the making of Evacuation, his powerful documentary on the fall of Kabul

It's the combination of such raw, immediate footage, and the completely candid testimonies of civilians and soldiers, that makes James W Newton's documentary on the Taliban's capture of Kabul in 2021, Evacuation, so indelible.
