Careers in Tech in TV: What does the industry have to offer?

There has long been a technology skills gap in TV due to the competitive recruitment of graduates in related fields, and despite the best efforts of employers, that gap remains.

As Freeview’s Head of Technology Partnerships, Alex Russell, acknowledged, “It’s certainly true that companies like Google and other tech giants can pay higher graduate salaries. As a smaller company though we offer a different sort of environment with the same benefits around flexible working, an exciting range of projects, a great pension. It’s just about getting ourselves noticed.”

In Conversation with Zai Bennett

Using her tenacious interview technique made famous by that doorstep interview with Dominic Cummings, Minnie will be grilling Zai about the gamble he’s taking on high-rolling Originals, Sky’s commitment to sustainability and diversity, opportunities for independent producers and the long-term impact of the pandemic on the media industry among other weighty topics.

Join Zai as he talks to Minnie online on Monday 25th January.

What Ireland is Watching

Here in Ireland we're not going anywhere just now and we are watching television more often. The panel members for this event have insights to share with us about what people in Ireland are watching on television. Just as the ways we are viewing have become diverse the role of audience measurement has become more challenging.

Protecting Yorkshire’s TV Heritage

This is our heritage, a colossus, that can be found stored in all manner of formats in multiple locations. And now we have a growing, vibrant production community based in the region, producing new content daily. How important is it that both the legacy collections and new digital content are archived: that the material is protected and preserved, and made accessible for future generations? Whose responsibility is it and are the skills and training in place to make it happen?

Get the Intel on Intelligence

Created by Nick Mohammed, Intelligence is a workplace comedy set in the UK’s GCHQ—a kind of weedier, geekier version of MI5, where they tackle international and domestic Cyber Crime from a desktop. But when a pompous, maverick NSA agent (David Schwimmer) comes over from the U.S. to join the team, he enlists an inept and tactless computer analyst (Nick Mohammed) in a power grab that threatens to disrupt the team’s ability to combat cyber terrorism.

The event will include an audience Q&A.
