ITV has announced that filming has begun on event drama No Return, starring Sheridan Smith.
Created and written by Danny Brocklehurst, No Return follows Kathy (Sheridan Smith), her husband Martin (Michael Jibson), their son Noah (Louis Ashbourne Serkis) and younger daughter Jessica (Lily Sutcliffe), on an idyllic all-inclusive luxury holiday in Turkey.
Kathy and Martin are ready to use the holiday to spend much needed time together to reconnect, but they soon become involved in a living nightmare.
When Noah accepts a seemingly innocent beach party invitation from fellow holidaymaker Rosie (Jodie Campbell), who is staying at the same hotel, everyone’s lives begin to fall apart.
Kathy and Martin are left to fight for their son’s freedom in what has turned into the holiday from hell.
An arrest, an expensive and foreign legal system, intrusive media coverage and uncooperative fellow holidaymakers add to their horrific ordeal.
The rest of the cast includes Sian Brooke (Good Omens) who plays Kathy’s sister Megan, David Mumeni (Dead Pixels) who plays Megan’s husband Steve, Philip Arditti (Black Earth Rising) as Noah’s lawyer Rico, Murat Steven (SOKO Stuttgart) as hotel worker Ismail and Rufus Hound (Trollied) as private investigator Al.
The series explores themes of parental love, guilt, grievances and issues around consent.
Producer Richard Fee commented: “We are thrilled to be making No Return for ITV. Danny has such a brilliant way of making an extraordinary situation feel completely relatable, and finding warmth and humour in even the most difficult circumstances.”
No Return is expected to air in 2022.
