This week's TV includes musical treats with new comedy We Are Lady Parts and the long-awaited return of Eurovision, as well as two new murder mysteries. 

Innocent

Monday, 9pm

When 16-year-old Matthew Taylor is brutally murdered in a dormant area of the Lake District, suspicions arise around English teacher Sally Wright (Katherine Kelly, Cheat), who took a special interest in the boy at school.

Despite having a spotless criminal record and no history of violence, the teacher is sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison by a majority verdict conviction. Innocent joins Sally five years later in the dock of Carlisle Crown Court, as she awaits the judgement of her retrial. 

Scheduled over four nights, the new four-part drama follows Sally as she desperately searches for answers in the baffling case of Matthew Taylor’s murder.

When a young brewery owner is found dead, four of his employees become bound together in a fragile pact of silence, with a secret that will change their lives forever.

Led by an all-star female ensemble, featuring Laura Fraser (Breaking Bad) as Anna, Julie Hesmondhalgh (Broadchurch) as Nancy, Eiry Thomas (Keeping Faith) as Louie and Heledd Gwynn (Ordinary Lies) as Cat, The Pact will uncover what truly happened on that night in the woods.

With exclusive access to a ground-breaking new trial at Imperial College London, The Psychedelic Drug Trial will explore whether psychedelic drugs can be used as a treatment for depression.

Professor David Nutt, Dr Robin Carhart-Harris and Dr Rosalind Watts lead the pioneering team of scientists and therapists as they compare the effects of psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, with an antidepressant. Filmed over 16 months, the documentary aims to uncover whether psychedelics could be used to help solve one of medicine's biggest challenges, the clinical depression affecting millions of people in the UK alone.

Created by Nida Manzoor, the anarchic and joyful musical comedy We Are Lady Parts follows Amina Hussain (Anjana Vasan), a nerdy microbiology student who joins the Muslim punk band Lady Parts as their unlikely lead guitarist.

While Amina hunts for a husband, the band, led by the fierce frontwoman Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey), attempt to bag their first proper gig.

Rafe Spall (War of the Worlds) and Esther Smith (Cuckoo) reunite in the fertility comedy Trying as the couple Nikki and Jason.

Now choosing to follow the adoption route, after being told conception would be unlikely, the pair must match with a child with help from their eccentric social worker Penny (Imelda Staunton).

As they navigate the notoriously tricky adoption process, Nikki becomes immediately attached to a young girl named Princess at an adoption event and knows that she is the child for them.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021

Saturday, 8pm

Graham Norton is once again commentating the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 live from Rotterdam, after last year’s ceremony was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The Eurovision Grand Final will see James Newman take to the stage, representing the UK with his single Embers. As the chosen Eurovision Spokesperson, Amanda Holden will be delivering the UK’s professional jury vote live from London.
