The UK’s answer to Selling Sunset, a fourth series of Trying and a sleepless psychological thriller make up this week’s picks.
The Great British Sewing Bee
Tuesday
BBC One, 9.00pm
The Great British Sewing Bee celebrates its tenth series of welcoming sewers into the haberdashery, to have their designs judged by fashion designers Patrick Grant and Esme Young.
Every week the sewers are first challenged to make an item to a pattern, then transform a pre-existing piece, and finally to make an outfit for a live model.
Ghosts’ Kiell Smith-Bynoe will be presenting, the latest in a line of all-star hosts such as Claudia Winkleman and Joe Lycett.
Buying London
Wednesday
Netflix
Netflix serves a stark reminder that whilst some of us are paying £900 a month to live in a shoebox in Wood Green, some people are shopping for a second home in Marylebone.
DDRE global, the UK's answer to Selling Sunset’s Oppenheim real estate group, have sold five billion pounds worth of London’s finest properties. Daniel Daggers (a property expert who has generously nicknamed himself ‘Mr Super Prime’) will take viewers behind the scenes, showing that even those at the top of their game can fall victim to a little drama.
Trying
Wednesday
Apple TV+
Esther Smith (Uncle) and Rafe Spall (The Ritual) play Nikki and Jason, a couple trying to have a child through any means necessary. True to life, the process has been long and complex, taking up three series before they managed to adopt Princess (Scarlett Rayner, The Gatehouse) and her little brother.
Series four joins the couple six years after adoption, comedically struggling with having alone time, worrying about the kids, and Princess wanting to find her birth mum.
Insomnia
Thursday
Paramount+
Vicky McClure (Line of Duty) stars in Insomnia, a psychological thriller with the eponymous sleep disorder at its centre. When Emma suddenly stops sleeping in the run up to her 40th Birthday, it feels like fate.
Her mother suffered a psychological break on the eve of her own 40th, and always told Emma the same would happen to her. The saying goes if you don’t learn from history, it repeats itself, and Emma realises she must look for answers in her past.
The Nevermets
Friday
Channel 4, 10.00pm
Channel 4 brings together couples who fell in love online and introduces them to each other for the first time. The couples include several Instagram love affairs, a man who has scarcely left Warrington but will for his Filipino girlfriend, and a 17 and 26-year-old who met on discord.
French & Saunders' Dawn French will narrate the couples' journeys. As the challenge of long distance vanishes, new ones arise, as age gaps, moral differences and in-laws pose more of a threat offline.
