From actor/writer Tom Blasden (Plebs, Fresh Meat), Gap Year tells the story of Sean (Ade Oyefeso) who passes up a sure-fire ‘lads holiday’ to head to smoggy Beijing with his friend Dylan. However Dylan, a hopeless romantic and precocious philosophy student, is secretly scheming, and the Sean find himself travelling the entire continent with his friend.

On the road, the pair meet a number of other travellers. Greg (Tim Key) is a relentlessly upbeat Brit desperately trying to relive the highs of his gap year in the nineties – but who refuses to deal with his crumbling marriage and failing professional life.

He has attached himself to two American students: May (Alice Lee), a Chinese-American who’s in Beijing to reconnect with her long-lost family, and part animal Ashley (Brittney Wilson) who’s been enlisted as May’s travelling companion – on May's mother's dime.

Can May and Ashley, who have vastly different expectations for their trip, have each other’s back no matter how far their travels veer off course?

What starts out as the journey of a lifetime rapidly turns into an unforgettable voyage of self-discovery, of sun, sea, sex and sand, and of constant surprises.

The eight-part comedy drama sees the group trek across China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Nepal, while they learn that, no matter how far you travel, you can never get away from yourself.
