Channel 4 has announced a countdown of five of Hollyoaks’ must-watch weeks in celebration of the continuing drama’s upcoming 25th birthday.
Hollyoaks@25 will showcase one week for every five years, each chosen for the significance and popularity of its storylines.
The first era will look at the years 1995-2000, specifically the year 1999, when the soap’s first ever major stunt was performed.
A young Tony, Lewis, Ruth and Lucy are desperate to escape the water tank in which they are being held captive by a vengeful Rob Hawthorne, the soap’s first ever villain.
Hollyoaks’ longest-serving cast member, Nick Pickard (Tony Hutchinson), will present and discuss the first week of episodes with fellow cast member Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen).
Pickard said: “It is so lovely being back on set, and seeing all of my fellow co-stars, and what better way to return than to host a new special birthday series with the lovely Jennifer Metcalfe?
“Although it’s been so difficult to remember my scripts after all this time, I’m a bit rusty…!”
Hollyoaks@25 comes following the success of Hollyoaks Favourites, and after tonight’s E4 episode viewers will get to see Pickard and Metcalfe introducing the series.
Metalfe added: “I was made up that Hollyoaks Favourites was so successful and loved that it kicked off with Dr Browning and Mercedes - one of my favourite couplings ever.
“I’m glad to be announcing Hollyoaks@25 as I’m really looking forward to seeing week long sets of episodes, era by era, and it’s going right back to the start too.”
Hollyoaks@25 will air for five weeks from 27th July on E4 at 7pm.
