Series three of Stephen Merchant’s comedy-thriller The Outlaws is on the horizon, and Jessica Gunning takes a writing role alongside starring as supervisor Diane.
The Outlaws follows a group of strangers undertaking a community payback sentence in Bristol. The group of misfits can never stay out of trouble for long, and drug dealers, suitcases full of cash, and a lot of poor decisions keep getting them back into trouble.
In the third series, The Outlaws appear to be out of danger as mob boss known as ‘The Dean’ (Claes Bang, Bad Sisters) is now safely behind bars. Jessica Gunning’s character Diane is enjoying her new life as a fully qualified PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) and is training up an eager new recruit Stan (Harry Trevaldwyn, Ten Percent).
They’re all thrown back into danger when one of The Outlaws returns with a secret which threatens them all.
Gunning says: “It’s been lovely all being back together, and I felt very lucky that I was in the writers’ room this time as I co-wrote an episode with Stephen, episode five. It’s been really exciting to be a part of helping draft the storyline for series three and get to know the characters more than I did before.”
Returning alongside Gunning will be Merchant (The Office), Rhianne Barreto (No Escape), Gamba Cole (Soon Gone: A Windrush Chronicle), Darren Boyd (Killing Eve), Eleanor Tomlinson (The Couple Next Door), Charles Babalola (Black Mirror), Tom Hanson (Brassic), Clare Perkins (The Wheel of Time) and Christopher Walken (Dune: Part Two).
The Outlaws series three will air on BBC One and iPlayer 30 May 2024.
