The Repair Shop: Christmas Special

Some festive treasures on their last legs have been brought to Jay Blades and his team, with the hope they will be fixed for Christmas. Amongst the items hoping to get mended are a steel drum, a mechanical Christmas cake, some 100-year-old paper Santa decorations, and a very sentimental wooden record player that needs to play music once again.

Beyond Paradise Christmas Special

BBC One, 9.00pm

Death in Paradise’s spin off takes us back to Shipton Abbott for the festive period.

A stream of peculiar burglaries hits the town in the run up to Christmas, whilst DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) is fighting to keep the local police station open. DS Esther Williams’ (Zahra Ahmadi, EastEnders) daughter Zoe (Melina Sinadinou) is less than happy when she’s hired to work in Santa’s grotto.

All these interlocking storylines promise to be plump with festive messaging, reminding us all of the real meaning of Christmas.

The Great Festive Bake Off

Channel 4, 8pm

The ghosts of Bake-Off's past have entered the big white tent once again to bring some Christmas cheer. George (series 12), Sophie (series eight), Dan (series nine), Amelia (series 10), Linda (series 11) and Carole (series 13) will be vying for that Hollywood Handshake that they may have missed out on in their first round.

Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood will return as judges, alongside hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond.

A Ghost Story for Christmas: Lot No 249

BBC Two, 10.00pm

Sherlock creator Mark Gatiss adapts Arthur Conan Doyle again, this time taking a more ghostly route.

The half hour special is expected to follow the same storyline as the Conan Doyle short story of the same name, following a group of Oxford students who get thrown off kilter when a member of their group begins an obsession with ancient Egyptian artefacts.

Known by some to be the first “mummy” ghost story to be written, let’s hope there’s one thing that’s staying wrapped up this Christmas.
