Debuting two weeks after Sex Education draws to a close, Netflix is filling the high-school drama gap with new series Everything Now.
Everything Now will put the focus on teenagers’ mental health, with the trailer seeing Sophie Wilde (Tom Jones, Talk to Me) star as Mia, a 16-year-old who has returned to school after a seven-month-long battle with an eating disorder.
Freshly entering the world of sixth form, Mia has discovered that all her friends have moved into pre-adulthood without her. Old enemies are now their friends, and they have started drinking, smoking and partying in her absence.
Mia wants to dive headfirst into the action, armed with her bucket list and surrounded by her three best friends, including Boiling Point’s Lauryn Ajufo. Items on the list include: ‘party’, ‘get drunk’, ‘drugs’, ‘sex’, ‘break the law’, and ‘have a relationship’.
Catching up on everything she has missed will not be a smooth ride, and she will soon find out that love, sex, and everything attached will not fit into her new life as seamlessly as she had hoped.
The series is penned by 22-year-old debut writer Ripley Parker. The wider cast includes Harry Cadby (Inside Man), Sam Reuben (Trust Me), Niamh McCormack (Dungeons and Dragons), Jessie Mae Alonzo (Newark, Newark), Vivienne Acheampong (Sandman), Alex Hassell (The Miniaturist), and Stephen Fry (QI). Noah Thomas and Robert Akodoto will also feature in their screen debuts.
Everything Now will be released on Netflix on 5 October 2023.
