Select Sessions: Sound Department
Select Sessions are a series of online employability training sessions for students studying on ScreenSkills Select endorsed courses. They provide you with professional advice on a range of topics direct from industry and focus on supporting you to gain the best opportunity for a successful career in the screen industries.
ScreenSkills has a series of e-learning modules on Getting into the screen industries which are a prerequisite for attending any Select Session event.

This online session is for ScreenSkills Select/RTS Scotland students interested in careers in film & TV.
What it covers
Join us for this ScreenSkills Select industry insight webinar in partnership with RTS Scotland where an expert panel will take a deep dive in to the Sound Department.
Hear how the doors opened for individuals and learn about the roles they worked through from sound trainee to sound mixer, sound recordist and sound supervisor.
The panel for this event is made up of freelance crew at various levels in the sound department, all with insight and knowledge about how to bring TV shows to life, how to realise a director’s vision and how to work together as a sound team.
The webinar will be facilitated by James Wilson, Curriculum Head: Broadcasting at City of Glasgow College.
Speakers for the webinar so far include:
Jim Hunter - TV Sound Supervisor (The Weakest Link, The Hit List, TRNSMT, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo)
Jim Hunter will be joining the webinar live from the sound control room at the new Studioworks facilities at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall. Jim has been a TV Sound Supervisor for more than 25 years and has worked on many genres of programmes in both studios and on outside broadcasts. He left the BBC last year to become a freelance TV Sound Supervisor. As well as his freelance work, Jim is actively involved in training the next generation of sound staff in the craft skills required for the industry. Jim was awarded the RTS Scotland Outstanding Achievement Award in 2022.

How to Book
This session will take place online via Zoom. Click ‘Book Now’ to register your ticket via ScreenSkills and follow the instructions to book your place: you must login or register before you are able to complete your booking.
If you are no longer able to attend, we ask you to please use the “cancel your ticket” function on the right hand side of the page so that we can release your place to somebody else.
