Created by and starring comedian Ramy Youssef, the series follows the titular Ramy (Youssef) on a conflicting spiritual journey, caught between his Muslim faith and his millennial friends in modern America.

The son of Egyptian immigrants Maysa (Hiam Abbass, Succession) and Farouk (Amr Waked, Lucy), Ramy is forced to navigate the opposing lifestyles of his Muslim community, who see life as a moral test, and his friends, who think life has no consequence.

Returning from an eventful trip to Egypt at the end of series one, Ramy is back in his politically divided New Jersey neighbourhood. Upon visiting a local Sufi centre, he meets a Sheikh, played by double Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight), who becomes a spiritual mentor.

As the pair enter into an Islamic oath – The Bay’ah – Ramy sets off on a new journey with its own obstacles.

Series two of Ramy will see the return of May Calamawy as Ramy’s sister Dena, Laith Nakli as Uncle Naseem and Steve Way as Steve. Mohammed Amer stars as diner owner and close friend of Ramy, Mo, with Michael Chernus returning as Michael and Dave Merheje returning as Ramy’s doctor friend, Ahmed.
