UKTV has commissioned the return of two scripted comedies to be broadcast on entertainment channel Dave.
Supernatural comedy Zapped sees the return of James Buckley (The Inbetweeners) as unassuming office worker Brian who is transported to a fantastical land named Munty, where magic is real but restricted by a police state. Here he meets wizard Howell (Paul Kaye) and a whole host of magical beings, the third series picks up from the a cliff-hanger ending, with Brian and Howell in dire straits.
Executive producer and comedian Steve Coogan commented, “I can’t wait to pull up a chair in The Jug And The Other Jug, pour myself a Ginger Steamer and maybe risk a slice of Herman’s legendary fish pie as I rejoin my favourite Muntyites.”
Black comedy Porters, has been commissioned for a full series following a three-part pilot series last year, sees daydreaming hospital porter Simon (Ed Easton) fantasizing about becoming a doctor while his reality takes place in the quirky underbelly of St Etheldreda’s hospital. Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) stars as karma-loving, German-born Tilman and there have been stellar guest appearances from Matthew Horne (Gavin and Stacey) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier, X-Men).
“The characters and worlds of both Zapped and Porters have established themselves as rich, distinct and very funny,” said Luke Hales, Dave general manager, “They’re a fantastic addition to the channel as part of Dave’s continued dedication to commissioning original comic content.”
Zapped and Porters are among a cluster of UKTV Originals to be shown on Dave in the coming months, such as series six and seven of the BAFTA-nominated Taskmaster, as well as new commissions Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier and Judge Romesh.
