The titular Garvey sisters are thrust under the microscope in a new trailer for Bad Sisters series two.
Sharon Horgan’s hilarious murder-mystery series is returning to Apple TV next month, and will rejoin the tight-knit Garvey sisters two years after the “accidental death” of “the prick”, aka Grace’s (Anne-Marie Duff) husband John Paul (a menacing Claes Bang). Spoilers for series one incoming.
As we now know, the death was far from accidental, as the finale blindsided us all by revealing that it was actually the long-suffering Grace who killed her abusive husband. As Ursula (Eva Birthistle) tells Roger (Michael Smiley), Grace’s loveable neighbour turned murder accomplice, in the trailer: “The world’s better off without him. Even the Pope would say that.”
Now, “things are finally looking up,” says Eva (Horgan), as she walks Grace down the aisle to her new husband Ian (Owen McDonnell).
But not for long. The death of John Paul haunts them to this day, and both Fiona Shaw’s Angelica and the police are probing for more details on his death. And as their suspicions rise and rise, so too do those of the sisters themselves. The trailer ends by hinting that Bibi (Sarah Greene) is starting “to have thoughts I don’t want to have” about Grace.
Eve Hewson will also be returning as Becka and Daryl McCormack as the insurance adjuster she fell in love with, Matthew Claffin. Their relationship doesn’t seem to be on a great footing after Matthew disposed of some particularly damning evidence to save Grace in the last series.
Horgan spoke to the RTS last year in light of her nomination for Writer – Drama at the RTS Programme Awards, and she teased that "there are things from the first series that kind of come back to fuck with them..."
Bad Sisters series two will start on Wednesday 13 November on Apple TV+ with two episodes airing at once, followed by one episode weekly until Christmas Day.
