The Royal Television Society has announced the scholars of its prestigious bursary scheme
The 2016 scheme offers 20 bursaries for Television Production and Broadcast Journalism students, and seven bursaries for Computing and Engineering undergraduates, beginning their courses in autumn 2016.
The RTS is investing £79,000 in the scheme in 2016, as part of its obligation to promoting and supporting the future of the television industry by recognising talented students from low income backgrounds who are seeking a career in the industry.
Since 2014, the RTS has provided support to 45 talented students. The bursary not only offers financial support, but also provides mentoring and access to major figures across the television industry.
Students receive £1,000 per year to assist with the cost of their studies, as well as free membership of the RTS and The Hospital Club in London – a private members club for those in the creative industries.
The scheme also offers mentoring opportunities to scholars.
The RTS bursary scholars were selected by a panel of industry professionals following an open call to all UK students applying for courses at accredited universities.

Jamie Davidson from Glasgow is awarded £1,000 per year towards studying the BA (Hons) Television course at Edinburgh Napier University.

Aaron Dimes from Gateshead is awarded £1,000 per year towards studying the BA (Hons) Film and Television Production course at University of Hertfordshire.
Shona Fegan from Kilcoo is awarded £1,000 per year towards studying the BA (Hons) Journalism and Media course at Coventry University.
Amber Fisher from Stanley, Co. Durham is awarded £1,000 per year towards studying the BA (Hons) Television Production course at University of Westminster.
Emily Friend from Tavistock is awarded £1,000 per year towards studying the BA (Hons) Film and Television Production course at University of York.
