Channel 4 has announced a new comedy pilot from the writing duo behind Pulling, Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) and Dennis Kelly (Utopia).

The Circuit centres around a small town social scene, where everyone hates going to dinner parties, but goes anyway.

Eva Birthistle (Brooklyn) and Adeel Aktar (The Night Manager, Four Lions) star as Nat and Gabe, a couple who have left their happy former lives for reasons that are not entirely clear.

In an effort to get to know the locals, they attend a dinner party hosted by their neighbours, Helene and Sasha (Victoria Hamilton and Tobias Menzies).

Along with the other guests, Marty (Nicola Walker) and Angie (Desiree Akhavan), Gabe and Nat are forced to sit through the world’s worst dinner party, where everyone seems to swing rapidly between being highly strung and psychopathic.

Channel 4’s Phil Clarke described the show as “irresistible”, adding “the prospect of a script from Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly, writing together again for the first time since Pulling, was incredibly exciting. The script didn’t disappoint, and I am delighted that we are now making a pilot.”

Kelly and Horgan said, "It has taken just 10 short years for us to agree to work together again. It was a mistake."
