Having previously announced that all actors from the 2010 live action film Scott Pilgrim VS The World will be returning to voice their anime counterparts for a new series, a new clip shows the actors voicing their characters for the first time.
This includes Michael Cera (Superbad) as the titular Scott Pilgrim, a 23-year-old bass guitarist in the band ‘Sex Bob-Omb’, Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) as Julie Powers, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Wolf Lake) as Scott's manic-pixie love interest Ramona Flowers, and Succession’s Kieran Culkin as Scott's roommate Wallace Wells.
The clip shows Pilgrim asking his friends what they know about Ramona Flowers, holding up an unhelpful drawing of her hair. Fans of the original film will notice the scene sticks very closely to its source material, with one change – Ramona’s had a career change from delivering Amazon packages to Netflix DVDs.
The new series is said to expand the Scott Pilgrim universe, adding more backstory for many of the characters and providing a fresh look at the comic books and franchise, updating some of the material that was now written two decades ago.
The author of the original comic books, Bryan Lee O’Malley, is the writer and showrunner for the series, with Scott Pilgrim VS The World director Edgar Wright credited as an executive producer.
The eight-episode series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, will be released onto Netflix on 17 November 2023.
