Netflix has released the official trailer for the final series of the hit UK gangland drama Top Boy.

It will be the third series in Netflix's reboot, but technically series five, after the streamer re-branded the first two Channel 4 series as Top Boy: Summerhouse.

A reminder—and spoiler—that the end of the fourth series saw Sully (Kane Robinson) ruin Dushane's (Ashley Walters) retirement plans by assassinating his successor Jamie (Michael Ward).

The rousing trailer opens with a melancholic montage of Top Boy's main players, Sully and Dushane among them, before scenes of weapons being loaded bleed into public protests erupting.

"Just know that we are f**king linked," Sully tells Dushane. "If I fail, we don't make no money... Ain't no going back from this one."

The synopsis tells us that Sully is taking charge this series, which pushes Dushane to cash out. But "as new shared problems arise, everything they've built comes under threat from forces outside and within their empire. Can they coexist by the rules of the road they’ve lived by their whole lives, in a world that is changing before them? Or can there only be one Top Boy?"

As the trailer mounts to a climax, we get several glimpses of action, including some fiery clashes with riot police as angry crowds chant "let him out!"

In a foreboding final line, Sully warns someone: "I know what you're on, but that road don't end good." It has fans already speculating who might die.

Returning cast including Little Simz, Jasmine Jobson, Saffron Hocking and Araloyin Oshunremi can also be glimpsed, as well as a menacing Barry Keoghan, who recently charmed viewers as the young Irish Dominic in The Banshees of Inisherin (2022).

Keoghan will play the mysterious new character Jonny, alongside another newcomer in Brian Gleeson (Bad Sisters), who will play a character called Tadgh.

The series has been directed by Myriam Raja (Azaar) and William Stefan Smith (On the Edge), and its executive producers include Drake, his business partner Adel ‘Future’ Nur, and basketball star LeBron James.

The fifth and final series of Top Boy will land on Netflix on 7 September 2023. Watch the trailer below.
