E4 and Netflix will partner on new road trip drama The End of the F***ing World based on the comic book series by Charles Forsman.
The End of the F***ing World is a menacing, tense and chilling tale starring Jessica Barden (The Lobster) and Alex Lawther (Black Mirror) as teen outsiders James and Alyssa, who embark on a road trip to find Alyssa’s father, who left home when she was a child.
Emotionally detached and disdainful James is convinced he’s a psychopath and he’s decided he is ready to take a step up from his dark habit of killing animals... to humans.
Cool and popular Alyssa is new in school and persuades James to join her in search of her real father and they embark on an ominous and absurd road trip to find him.
As James’s urge to act on his sociopathic and violent inclinations increase, Alyssa remains willfully ignorant to his tendencies as she is blinded by young love.
However, one night the two find themselves swept up in events that lead them down a darker and surreal path than before.
“I’m thrilled that The End of the F***ing World starts filming on Monday – I can’t believe it’s really happening! From the minute I got sent Chuck Forsman’s comics to read, I wanted in," said the show's writer, Charlie Covell (Banana, Gap Year).
"They’re beautiful, and they tell a dark, unconventional coming-of-age love story. It has been a massive privilege to bring Chuck’s characters to screen.”
Murray Ferguson, Chief Executive of Clerkenwell Films (Misfits, Lovesick), who are producing the eight-part series, said: “It’s great to be partnering once more with both Channel 4/E4 and with Netflix on this new and ambitious project.
"This is a series full of originality and flair. We can’t wait to get started.”
Filming begins this week, and the series will air on E4 and be available on Netflix internationally later this year.
