Comedian Joel Dommett set to host the UK version of the global phenomenon, Survivor.
Survivor has been off the UK screens since 2002, but has been having a huge amount of success overseas, with the US version airing its 44th season in March 2023.
The revived Survivor will follow a similar format to the US show, with the competitors forming tribal groups. The contestants will catch and hunt their food, build their own shelter, and navigate life on the island in their tribes.
The aim of the game is to survive the tribal council meetings, where they will risk being voted out by their tribemates. The contestant is able to avoid this, by competing in a series of psychological and physical challenges and earning immunity. The tribes will eventually merge, and then battle it out as individuals. After 16 episodes, the Tribal Council meeting will see all remaining contestants vote for who they believe deserves to win. The lucky participant, or Sole Survivor, will take home a £100,000 cash prize.
Joel Dommett (The Masked Singer), commented to the BBC: “I’m the new host of the UK’s Survivor! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! A huge thank you to the BBC for trusting me with this. It’s such a hugely popular format all over the world and I’m super excited to help bring it to our sweet little country. Let the tribal councils BEGIN!”
The show will premiere on BBC one and iPlayer, with no release date currently set.
