ITV has announced details for its live celebration of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Dame Helen Mirren, Damian Lewis, Omid Djalili and Tom Cruise will lead the star-studded cast for the first ever televised event to mark such a historic occasion.
Phillip Schofield and Julie Etchingham will host the live broadcast, joined by guests including Adjoa Andoh, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ant & Dec, Dame Joan Collins, Sir Mo Farah, Dame Maureen Lipman, Sir David Jason, Alan Titchmarsh, Dame Kelly Holmes, Moira Stuart and Sir Trevor McDonald.
The theatre piece will feature 1300 performers and 500 horses galloping through history in four acts, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I through to the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, and finishing with a grand finale.
Each of the four acts will be overseen by a different event host: Tom Cruise, Damian Lewis, Adjoa Andoh and Alan Titchmarsh.
Dame Helen Mirren will star as Queen Elizabeth I, while Omid Djalili will introduce the cast of ‘Queen’s Players’ as The Herald.
The Herald will lead viewers through time by linking the acts together and narrating the stories, while highlighting history’s absurdities as they arise.
Each act will revisit key moments in history, such as Elizabeth I’s Tilbury Speech and James I and the Gunpowder Plot. The play will also celebrate The Commonwealth and all four nations of the United Kingdom.
Accompanying the piece throughout will be a number of military and equestrian displays from countries around the world, including Azerbaijan, India, Oman, France, Norway, Switzerland and Trinidad & Tobago.
Musical Director Debbie Wiseman will compose the 75-piece orchestra comprising Tri-Service personnel and members of The National Symphony Orchestra, with special performances from Keala Settle, Gregory Porter and Katherine Jenkins.
