Filming has begun on six-part detective comedy-drama Ludwig, which will star David Mitchell (Peep Show).
Each hour-long episode follows Mitchell’s character, John Taylor, as he assumes the identity of his missing twin brother James in an effort to track him down. A shut-in with no spouse or kids, John has his work cut out for him pretending to be James, the busy Detective Chief Inspector heading up Cambridge’s inner-city major crimes unit.
Thankfully, John has his experience designing puzzles under the pseudonym ‘Ludwig’. Will his brother’s disappearance prove a mystery too cryptic?
Also appearing in the comedy-drama are Anna Maxwell Martin (Motherland), who plays James’s sister Lucy Betts-Taylor. Other cast members include Izuka Hoyle (Big Boys), Gerran Howell (Catch-22), Dipo Ola (We Hunt Together), Dorothy Atkinson (Mum) and Dylan Hughes (Malory Towers)
“I’m delighted to be working in a genre of television that I have loved ever since, at the age of 10, I started watching the Miss Marple adaptations, starring Joan Hickson, with my parents,” said David Mitchell. “Sometimes the only thing that can bring the whole family together is murder.”
The show is created and written by Mark Brotherhood (Death in Paradise), and directed by Robert McKillop (Then You Run) and Jill Robertson (The Diplomat).
Ludwig will appear on BBC One, with more information to be announced in due course.
