The revamped game show has a new host in Stephen Mulhern, who has replaced the face of the programme, Noel Edmonds.
The popular game show Deal or No Deal is set to make a return to TV. Acquired by ITV, the reboot has had a spruce up, introducing a new host in the shape of Stephen Mulhern, who takes over from Noel Edmonds.
Talking to ITV, Mulhern said: “It’s one of the greatest shows of all time and to be the new host is an honour! I can’t wait to get started.” Mulhern has plenty of experience in the presenting world, with previous game show gigs including Catchphrase and In for a Penny.
The new incarnation of Deal or No Deal will continue to pit contestants against The Banker, with each player competing to win a cash prize by showcasing their nerves of steel and innate intuition.
Contestants begin the game with 22 sealed boxes, with each box containing a different amount of money. Their first job is to choose one box from the lot, which will remain unopened until the end of the game. They must then eliminate the remaining boxes one by one, with the amount of money inside each being revealed as they are opened. Once a box has been opened, it is removed from play.
Throughout the game, the player is offered various sums of money by The Banker in exchange for their original unopened box, but they must weigh up the value of the offer against the potential value of the prize inside. The Banker’s offer will differ depending on which boxes have already been opened. Play it safe and take The Banker’s buyout, or play on for a chance to win big.
The show has undergone a revamp for its new broadcaster, with a new-look set and a new batch of prize boxes being introduced. Despite the changes, the show retains its appeal as a nail-biting game of chance, with a potentially colossal cash prize at stake.
Tamara Gilder, Joint Managing Director of Remarkable Entertainment, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing Deal or No Deal back. It’s an iconic format – but now on a new channel with a new, fantastic host. We also have a new Banker, but I’m afraid they’re even more awful than the last one.”
The show, which first launched in the Netherlands in 2002, has been commissioned in over 80 territories across the world. Filming for the new UK version of Deal or No Deal is expected to begin later in 2023.
