Applications from aspiring accountants to join industry-funded scheme are now being accepted.

Creative Skillset has launched a Film Accounts trainee scheme to help new entrants kick-start a career in film production.

The scheme is seeking individuals who are as equally passionate about numbers as they are about film.

Responding to industry demand for skilled accounts personnel, a bespoke programme has been created, in partnership with Production Guild, to provide introductory training for numerate individuals eager for a freelance career in the accounting side of filmmaking.

Previous trainees have been placed on UK feature film productions, such as Wonder WomanGod's Own CountryBreathe and Lady Macbeth, and on upcoming releases such as Isle of DogsMamma Mia 2, Jurassic WorldYardie and Dumbo.

While on a production, trainees are supported by a supervisor within their department, learn and develop their skills through on the job training and gain important contacts to help them find future work.

Alongside placements, trainees attend courses to improve their employability, including Health and Safety, Finance for Freelancers, Networking, Carbon Literacy and grade specific industry masterclasses.

Trainees also receive an expenses allowance from their production, which is subsidised by the Film Skills Levy Fund managed by Creative Skillset.

Good numeracy and spreadsheet skills are a minimum requirement. Candidates with existing accounting qualifications or book-keeping experience from other industries are also welcomed.

Lisa Howe, Film Manager, Creative Skillset said, “Responding to industry demand, we’re delighted to open up the scheme specifically to Film Accounts trainees, in partnership with Production Guild. This is a great opportunity for individuals with a love of numbers to learn more about Accounting pathways and opportunities in the booming UK film industry and will help deliver the Production Accountants that the industry needs now and in the future.”

Applications close 29 March 2018.
