Channel 4 has commissioned a new queer drama from Russell T Davies, known for his other LGBTQIA+ projects for the broadcaster, Queer as Folk, Cucumber and It’s A Sin.
Tip Toe will focus on how prejudice is beginning to creep back into queer people’s lives. Leo and Clive are next door neighbours in Manchester, with the former running a bar on Canal Street and the latter an electrician with two sons. Gradually, relations sour and tensions rise between the neighbours, as opinions replace facts and tolerance proves a dwindling resource.
The five-part series will unite the team behind Queer as Folk, including executive producer Nicola Shindler and director Peter Hoar.
“It’s my honour to combine my old home, Channel 4, with my second home, Canal Street,” said Russell T Davies. “This is a show I had to write because the world is getting stranger, tougher and darker, and frankly, the fight is on.”
“It is a huge privilege to back this remarkable new series from Russell, one of the greatest writers of our time, and the man behind some of our most era-defining hits, including Queer as Folk and It’s A Sin,” said Ollie Madden, director of Film4 and Channel 4 Drama. “We couldn’t love Tip Toe more: it is funny, gripping, full of heart, and an urgent call to arms.”
Casting details will be announced in due course.
